Impact on a Child

I thought the following chinese proverb from my daily planner was worth sharing.
"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark."

There are humorous villains who cry about the toy he didn't get or not being hugged enough.  However, the quote applies to everyone as the influence and as the one influenced.


Here are three villain examples with an impacting childhood moment anyway:

Gru from Despicable Me,

Ego the critic from Ratatouille (Spoliler),

And Megamind.

Megamind at the top.
Metroman at the bottom.

The last two are cast into the roles of villain and hero according to looks and homes.

Can you think of an example? It does not have to be a villain or from a movie.

1984 in Monk show

I finished Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell today. Like I said before, the book is a slow read, otherwise you're not actually reading the whole book. The slowest pace is when the character Winston reads the book inside the story (that's meta!), but then the pace quickens and hooks you until you finish the story.

My coincidental reward for finishing Nineteen Eighty-Four today was understanding the allusion in the Monk episode I happened to watch later. From memory the line was, "I just want 2 plus 2 to equal 4 again." I gasped, giggled, and wanted to give a high-five to somebody! Thank you for the reward. =)

At this point I started thinking of Nineteen Eighty-Four.

The episode was "Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum" in season 1, and the allusion is given when the criminal is caught.

New Blog Address!

I shortened the address for this blog.  So it changed from StoryNAudience.blogspot.com to StoryNAud.blogspot.com.

Plus I extended the comment option to Google account owners instead of blogspot members.

Dystopia contest about love

Dystopia and time travel are my favorite types of sci-fi (I'll have to blog later about the first at least). I just heard about the Lauren Oliver's contest, and I want to write a short story entry.  Even if I do not make the deadline, the prompt will be a good exercise.

If you're interested in entering as well, then click Lauren's name above. The prompt says, "Write a short story or poem in less than 750 words in which two people meet and have a connection (romantic or not), in a society where human interaction is shunned." The deadline is April 24.

I have not read Lauren's work yet but I wish to read Delirium, which has the contest's theme.

Relearning to Express

I'm taking an art class again after a year and a friend new to art classes is joining me.  I imagined her fresh perspective to art lessons and either realized or remembered this: We learn to see again through art. For example, we need to notice and understand colors, shapes, light, shadow, and depth again in order to capture these aspects.

So with any kind of writing we learn to talk again.
